Haymaker Drink Recipe, Featuring Maker’s Mark
We may get commissions for purchases made through links in this post.
The Haymaker cocktail blends orange and lime flavors with whiskey and vermouth. The flavor is complex, starting with fruity notes but ending on the smokiness of the whiskey.
This drink is one you can easily mix as a big batch in a pitcher and serve over ice to guests, which makes it a nice choice for parties. I
t’s also easy to make by the glass because it’s just equal parts of all four ingredients. And all of them blend into one note, which is hard to identify. There are definite hints of citrus.
You also get the oak, caramel, and vanilla notes from the whiskey, and just a hint of the wheat. And the dry vermouth adds several hints of things fruity, spicy and/or herbal.
Because the whiskey isn’t dominant in this one, you don’t need to be a whiskey lover to enjoy this drink.
This is a great drink for sipping along with dinner, or all by itself while you kick back and relax. If you do want to serve it with food, try anything involving any form of barbecue. Pulled pork sandwiches or pulled pork nachos taste delicious with this cocktail.
If you enjoy this drink, check out the classic Whiskey Sour, with or without egg white (but once you’ve had the egg white version, you’ll never go back). Also try the Boulevardier, which is basically a Negroni with bourbon instead of gin.
