The Black and White Martini blends the rich, velvety notes of crème de cacao with the smooth, aromatic flavor of vanilla vodka. It’s a decadent twist on the traditional martini.

Some would argue it’s nothing like a martini, and this is a fair point. Perhaps you can’t even call it a twist or riff on that iconic drink. But what you can call it is delicious.

The Flavor Profile

The appeal of this drink comes from its key ingredients – vanilla vodka and crème de cacao. Together they make a flavor that’s rich and sweet enough to count as a light dessert.

Vanilla, with its warm, comforting notes, has long been a beloved flavor in the world of spirits and cocktails. When combined with the rich, chocolatey essence of crème de cacao, the result is a drink that’s both indulgent and sophisticated.

Choosing Brands

Choose a high quality vanilla vodka like Grey Goose La Vanille. It’s infused with top quality vanilla beans, and that gives it subtle hints of caramel, baking spices, and even a touch of floral sweetness. This complex flavor profile makes a perfect counterpoint to the darker, more intense notes of the crème de cacao.

For the creme de cacao, you can go with one of the standard brands, but if you upgrade to a Mozart Chocolate Dark or Godiva Chocolate, you’ll get a more true chocolate flavor.

Serving Tips

This is a cocktail best savored slowly and mindfully. It’s meant to be sipped and appreciated, rather than quickly consumed. Here are some tips to help you perfect your serving.

Glassware Matters

Serve it in a properly chilled martini glass. The sleek, slim design of the martini glass helps to showcase the look of the cocktail, while the chilled temperature keeps the drink refreshingly cold from start to finish.

Experiment with Garnishes

This drink requires no garnish, but feel free to get creative. A simple dusting of ground vanilla bean or cocoa powder is a classic option.

Try floating a few coffee beans or a thin slice of vanilla bean in the drink for an added touch of sophistication. You can also experiment with edible flowers, citrus twists, or even a drizzle of chocolate syrup to make each Black & White Martini unique.

Pair with Complementary Foods

This drink is great on its own, but you can also pair it with a variety of desserts and after-dinner treats. Consider serving it alongside a rich chocolate torte, a decadent crème brûlée, or even a simple plate of gourmet truffles.

Savor the Aroma

Take a moment to appreciate the intoxicating aroma of the Black & White Martini before taking your first sip. The blend of vanilla and chocolate notes will heighten your anticipation of the flavors to come.
