The Crown Royal Press drink recipe makes the most of Crown Royal Canadian whisky. In fact, that makes up most of the drink. The other ingredients add a touch of citrus and spice.
Crown Royal has notes of vanilla, fruit and oak. It’s a blended whisky that’s tasty on its own, but even better in cocktails. Along with the whisky, this drink features some bitters, some lemon juice and a touch of lemon-lime soda.
That combination creates some spicy-citrus notes which enhance the vanilla and fruit flavors in the whisky. Be aware that this drink recipe makes no effort to disguise the flavor of the whisky – the flavor is the whole point.
And the other ingredients act more as flavor enhancers than mixers. It’s all about bringing out the very best notes of the Crown Royal.
The lemon-lime soda adds a little bit of sweetness, but not much. This is a mellow cocktail – not sweet, but not too tart or tangy, either. It’s less sweet than a Whiskey Sour, for example.
If you want to serve this with food, try it with steak. I love whisky and steak together. Check out this Pan-Seared Ribeye Steak with Blue Cheese Butter from Kitchen Swagger. Blue cheese is another item that pairs well with whisky, so this makes a great combo.
