Dickelade Drink Recipe, featuring George Dickel No. 12

The Dickelade drink recipe is very easy to make. It features George Dickel No. 12 Tennessee sour mash whiskey (or “whisky” as the spell it on the bottle).
If you’re unfamiliar with George Dickel No. 12, it’s a blended Tennessee whiskey. Corn notes dominate the flavor, followed by oak, caramel and vanilla notes.
You may also pick up some fruit notes when you drink it on its own. It doesn’t have the charcoal flavor of some Tennessee whiskeys. For its price point, many consider No. 12 a great bargain.
It’s not too far off from the classic Whiskey Sour, which blends bourbon with lemon juice and sugar (and some variations add an egg white for texture and to round out the flavor).
Whatever you think of this one for sipping, this whiskey works very well in cocktails. The tartness of the lemonade brings out the sweeter notes in the whiskey.
If you want to serve it with food, just think about what goes well with lemonade. It’s perfect for barbecues and any outdoor party, because it’s not too sweet or heavy. It’s refreshing on a hot day because of the lemonade. Serve it with a really good bratwurst dog, like this Caramelized Beer Onions and Cheddar Bratwurst from Honest Cooking.
But you could also serve it with a nice juicy steak, either grilled or pan seared.
If you enjoy this drink, you should also take a look at the Whiskey Bomb, which blends Scotch with gomme syrup and angostura bitters.
