Margarita Granita

The Margarita Granita is a slushy frozen treat with a kick. The orange, lemon and lime flavors make it very refreshing.

Be sure to serve it in chilled glasses so the coldness and texture will last longer. This is a terrific drink to enjoy on a hot day while you’re in the shade.

You may ask how this drink is different from the classic margarita done blended style. The taste is not that different, but the texture is.

It’s more like a slushy popsicle, or a Hawaiian shaved ice, than a drink blended with ice. It’s actually thick enough that you can serve it with a spoon, or one of those straw-spoons.

Which, of course, makes it a perfect dessert drink. Especially on really warm days when heavy, creamy desserts would be too much and you need something light.

You can optionally rim the glass with salt or sugar. Salt will make it taste more like a traditional margarita, and sugar will make it more like a sweet, fruity dessert.

You could also do a rim that mixes salt with just a touch of hot paprika or chili powder (a little goes a long way) to give it a spicy kick. The heat would make the sweet and tart fruity notes seem even stronger.
