You could argue that the Blackberry Mint Martini isn’t all that close to a real martini, since it features rum as its only alcohol. The blackberry and mint flavors are infused into it, and a touch of lime juice and simple syrup are the only mixers.
But why quibble over a name with something so delicious? It’s almost pure alcohol, so in that sense it’s a lot like a classic gin martini.
This flavors in this one are blackberry and mint, with a strong hint of lime, and some background caramel notes from the rum. It’s sweet and fruity but with a tangy, refreshing edge.
Rum drinks are so often mixed with tropical fruits. This drink makes an interesting departure from that. It’s great when the blackberries you have are a little bit tangy.
But you can still make this one even when blackberries aren’t in season. Frozen blackberries from your grocers freezer work very well in this drink.
Some people even think frozen is better than fresh. It will have plenty of blackberry flavor. All you need to do is let them thaw for a few minutes. You can also let them sit in warm water briefly to speed up the process.
