Marshmallow Shooter Drink Recipe

The Marshmallow Shooter is a cocktail recipe I invented. I haven’t found any other cocktails of the same name, nor any that try to emulate the taste of a marshmallow in cocktail form.
And let me tell you: it’s not easy. But I think this recipe does at least suggest the flavor of marshmallow.
The unfortunate thing is that some of the original ingredients stopped being made, or became very hard to find. But I still think it captures the flavor of marshmallows well.
Marshmallows are mainly composed of sugary stuff and a little vanilla, so I originally used the Vanilla Royale to impart the vanilla flavor.
It’s great if you can get it. It’s almost buttery, and very tasty, but it can be impossible to find locally and online, depending where you live.
So now the recipe calls for vanilla liqueur, which will work about as well. Especially with the next adjustment I had to make, which was swapping out the Cruzan Caramel Rum Cream.
The Rum Cream adds something like the rich sugary flavor marshmallows have. At the time of this writing, you can order it online from the above-linked store.
But it’s getting harder and harder to find, so instead you can use Carolan’s Irish Cream. It’s an Irish cream that has stronger than average caramel notes.
The heavy cream rounds out the flavors and dulls those notes that head off in a non-marshmallow direction. And the vanilla liqueur gives it some punch.
Like I said, it doesn’t taste exactly like a marshmallow, but I think it hits some of the right notes. And it’s tasty! Adding mini-marshmallows gives it an added boost of authenticity, but you can leave them off if you prefer.
This is a fun drink to have for dessert, or anytime you’re in the mood for something sweet and mellow. Because the dominant flavor in this drink is vanilla, it pairs well with any food you’d consider having with a vanilla milkshake.
Burgers, for example, or any kind of bold, flavorful sandwich, such as most Subway sandwiches. It also goes well with crispy chicken sandwiches, or even fried chicken.
In my opinion, it’s a little heavy for an aperitif, but it makes a great finish for most meals.
You may also want to try my Marshmallow Vodka Infusion, which is richer and better tasting than marshmallow flavored vodka.
