Quick Fox Cocktail Recipe

The Quick Fox is a layered cocktail – three layers, to be precise. Pouring three layers without messing any of them up is slightly tricky and takes a bit of practice. The specific gravity of a liqueur from one brand to the next can also vary.

This cocktail uses Irish cream, a melon liqueur, and a coffee liqueur. If you use Baileys, Kahlua and Midori, you’ll want the Kahlua on the bottom, followed by the Baileys and topped with the Midori.

Flavor Profile

The flavors here are coffee, cream, whiskey and melon. It works surprisingly well to make a bitter sweet, slightly fruity, slightly creamy flavor that’s very nice.

You can stir and savor it or toss it back in one go. You can also use a larger glass and more of each ingredient to make a nice normal sized cocktail.

Specific Gravity & Layered Cocktails

If you use any other brands, as I did here, the layers won’t necessarily settle in the order you expect. However, it doesn’t really affect pouring.

When I made the drink pictured here, I poured the coffee liqueur first, and then when I poured the melon liqueur, it sank cleanly to the bottom, straight through the coffee liqueur. So the layering still worked, it just wasn’t in the order I expected.

Layering is easier than you think. If the spoon method isn’t working for you, here’s a hint: maybe you need to put pourers on your bottle to make them pour more smoothly when they’re close to full.

People ask where I got this shot glass. It’s not being made anymore, unfortunately. But you can get similar ones on Ebay and Amazon.
