Easy Layered Hazelnut White Flag Shooter Cocktail

We may get commissions for purchases made through links in this post.

The White Flag is a layered cocktail. Unlike a lot of layered cocktails, such as the B52, this one just uses two liqueurs, which makes it much less intimidating to pour. In fact, you can almost accidentally layer a White Flag without even meaning to.

In a lot of cocktail recipes that call for Baileys, I use Carolan’s instead, but when it comes to layered drinks, the two liqueurs do not have the same specific gravity.

Carolan’s is a bit heavier, and won’t always float on top the way you expect. Therefore, I’m leaving this one as is and calling for Baileys. You can use any brand you like, but be prepared for surprises with the layering.

The Flavor

It’s a blend of Frangelico and Bailey’s, so the strongest and first note you notice is hazelnut. Next you notice the whiskey notes, and then the creamy taste from the Bailey’s makes it all work together.

If you’re wondering where to get this shot glass, they apparently aren’t being made anymore. But you can get these very similar but flatter-bottomed ones on Ebay. Or this set on Amazon.

Layering a Cocktail

It’s easier than you think. We have a complete guide on several ways to layer a cocktail. It’s got text instructions, pictures and videos (and the video is on this page).

White Flag Cocktail Recipe

Yield: 1 drink
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes

The White Flag is a layered cocktail. Unlike many of them, such as the B52, this one just uses two liqueurs, which makes it much less intimidating to pour.

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce Frangelico
  • 1/4 ounce Baileys

Instructions

  1. Pour in the Frangelico.
  2. Slowly pour the Baileys on top of it, floating it.

Notes

You may be able to float the Baileys by simply pouring it in slowly and gently, especially if you have a pour spout on your bottle. Check out our complete guide to floating layered cocktails, with instructions, pictures and a video showing you exactly how to do it.
